Lions and Tigers and Werewolves, Oh My! [BtS]

My, what a month May was. As promised, we had a quest, a huge graphics update, and a full new feature. I'll just admit it now. My predictions last month sucked. Feel free to ridicule me in the comments. At least I didn't say a new skill was coming out! Overall, nobody can argue that Jagex delivered a lot of content last month, my personal opinions on the quality be damned!

This month's Behind the Scenes, I have to admit, filled me with dread from the first sentence. The phrase “‘Bits and Pieces’ projects” seems to indicate that all they did this month was to throw together whatever they had the new interns coding. Not insulting any new interns that might be working there, but you just know the masses are clamoring for something like Tytn's masterpiece, “One Small Favour.” [And no, while appearing sarcastic, I actually mean it.]

However, I believe that some of these updates may redeem the entire concept. Most of the real suggestions in the forums seem to have some concept of game balance, and three-handed swords aside, seem to make logical sense. I just hope some of the ideas from the “High Level Skills” topic are featured. This might even include a string-x, although I think there might be some outcry in that case. Wink

Quest Ending Spoiler. Oops.

The next update is again something I'm looking forward to. Their lunar quest last month did not disappoint, and I believe this quest will be a very fun one. At first I was thinking that their first members quest, “Ball Quest,” as it was called in the beginning, was not the best place to continue a story, but after reading it thoroughly, I was convinced. Kind of surprised it took them so long to rip o... I mean adapt, the tales of the Grimm Brothers.

Coming up next, there is a whole new update to the Hunter skill, as well as a mini-game involving combat in some way. The implings as a concept are a pretty interesting idea, and with the upper level being 83 Hunter, it seems to be a really promising update. If they give new Dragon weapons, it may just be the kick Hunter haters need to accept it as a skill. 1,960 players have 83 Hunter right now. I wonder how many there will be by the time that update runs around. I know I'll be at the Chinchompas myself.

And of course, as I've mentioned briefly, the new Dragon arrows and darts are sure to fill up the Rants forum. Whether they're underpowered, and the rangers complain, or overpowered, causing the other classes to complain, I'm sure there will be plenty of entertainment to be had at the expense of the posters. Slayer fanatics are sure to be entertained by the new Dark Bow, but if the speed of it isn't in line with the shortbow, will Dragon arrows be used? Time will tell.

As we only really have three updates this month, I believe we will have a week off. Since I was completely off in my predictions last month, I'll just give you the updates I think we will get. Feel free to laugh at me if they're off.

  • Week of June 4th: Bits and Pieces
  • Week of June 11th: Witch's Quest
  • Week of June 18th: No update
  • Week of June 25th: Implings and minigame

Feel free to comment on my predictions, and if you run into me at the Chinchompas, watch out " I bite.

I'm pretty pumped about this month. If it wasn't for the Dark Bow's introduction (giving the Dark Beast's an actual function) I would say that the 'bits and pieces' update is the best one. There are hundreds of possibilities, all of them positive, all of them making the game that little bit better. Very Happy

The quest seems like another fun one, they've really been on a roll with them lately.

And the implings update sounds like something worth doing as well.

Thumbs up Jagex!

It's a well-balanced month. I for one never thought that they'd EVER get around to making a slayer drop for rangers, nor did I think that they'd target the level 90 beast.

It's all in the waiting game. We've got to be patient and we've got to let the chips fall where they may. We may be dead wrong in guessing and say that the Dark Bow will have the speed of a longbow, or it could be as fast as darts.

The Bits and Pieces was a bit unexpected as well, but at least it means that I can do the Fight Caves with a better-powered Rune Crossbow with Pearl Tips! Very Happy

All in all, this looks like a good month. Time will tell on most everything, though.

I have been hearing and also wanting dragon arrows for quite some time now, it will be interesting to see how powerful they are and indeed the price :/

The bow i am looking forward to indeed as ranging i am quite fond of.

So yeah looking forward to June, indeed i am.

From a pure side of view, alot of pures are crying out that the dark bow should have no def requirement. But knowing jagex...

I didn't see a connection to the grim brothers, but now I do, thansk for that pointer. I think your predictions are fairly correct, except that no update one, it could be another bits and pieces updateWink.

I really can't wait for this "Bits and Pieces" bit, and I sure hope they do it more often!

The quest, meh, doesn't bother me, I detest quests. Razz

It seems like Jagex wanted to do something with the huge amount of suggestions and rants (*Cough* Range Underpowered *Cough*). Besides the quest, I've seen people post these things for ages.
(Too bad there'll just be new "Z0mG! thizz izz und3r/0verp0w3r3d!" rants...)

Personally I believe that the week of June 18th will be the Imp Update. I believe this because the new Dragon Arrows and Darts (many people seem to forget about the darts) come out you will need to gather them and learn to use the Imps.

It makes perfect sense for Jagex to release the Imp update a week before the Dark Bow is released.

Seems to be a decent month. But frankly, without the Dark Bow and Dragon Projectiles, it doesn't look too thrilling.

Heh. I managed to be wrong from my first update.
